Lindfield Learning Village

ARCHIVED NEWS

Update @ 23/4/2021

From Monday 26 April, the new bus service operating from / to Chatswood Station will now operate from Stand J on Railway Street to provide clearer and easier boarding and lighting of the service. Changes are highlighted in the attached information.

Lindfield Learning Village

Additional bus service will be operating from Day 1 Term 2 between LLV, Roseville Station, Chatswood Station and West Chatswood. Each school day, the bus will depart West Chatswood at 08:00 each morning and depart LLV at 15:22 each afternoon.

The bus will not operate as an Opal tap-on / tap-off service, however student numbers will be recorded daily to help inform further bus planning.

If you are looking for your child to travel by public transport, please also ensure they are registered for Transport for NSW’s School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS), as registrations for this form part of the data that Transport for NSW look at when considering their bus planning. Information on the SSTS can be found on our website under ‘Free OPAL Card Application’ within the ‘Transport Information’ section here.

We recognise that students are travelling from many directions to get to school and we are continuing to work with Transport for NSW to optimise the public transport options to and from LLV.

Lindfield Learning Village will come together to commemorate ANZAC Day on Friday 23 April at 2:30pm. Our Stage 6 VET students will lead the multimedia commemoration which will include both the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems, songs by staff and students, an extract from Wesley Enoch’s Black Diggers, a special speech written by our staff and students and The Last Post will be played by student, Archie Hanks-Ruttyn.

Dear Villagers,
This term, our school is taking part in the now compulsory Tell Them From Me surveys for the Department of Education. The data will inform targets and priority areas for the school improvement planning cycle. The survey will provide feedback on what our students, parents and teachers think about
school life. The TTFM student survey asks students about a range of school experiences, including their engagement and wellbeing at school and beyond, as well as the teaching practices and learning environment they experience in the classroom.
The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.

What is a Booster?

Boosters are student facilitated and run during lunchtimes. They are designed to provide connections for like-minded students in passion orientated projects or clubs. Boosters could look like a project aimed at organising an awareness campaign or specific activity like Jump Rope for Heart, or simply a time and place for lovers of books to meet and discuss, it could be a focused club created to improve skills and knowledge such as film club, chess, debating or it could be linked to many wonderful competitions or festivals organised for High School Students. Your imagination is the limit. Boosters are facilitated by students with minimal support from teachers and it is a great way to further develop your capabilities in leadership.

I went walking and what did I see … a Monday morning moment in K-2.

Big/Little Storytellers

Happy Harmony Day

Did you know, in NSW, children under 16 years of age are allowed to ride on a footpath – keeping them safe until they have the skills, knowledge of the rules and decision making ability to ride safely on the road. An adult rider who is supervising a bicycle rider under 16 may also ride with the younger rider on the footpath. Therefore, Friday is a fantastic opportunity for students, parents and staff to trial safely cycling to LLV together.

A full list of the NSW cycling road rules can be found on the Centre for Road Safety website here.

Kiss & Collect Update

"Welcome back! As you are already aware, Kiss & Collect has never been intended to service a large amount of traffic. If you have absolutely no alternative but to use it to collect your child in the afternoon, we ask that: Parents of K - 2 children only, arrive as close as possible to 3.00 pm. ALL other parents should aim to arrive at 3.10 pm. PARENTS should stay in your cars at all times and students should be able to enter and exit the car on the left hand side. If you have booster seats please make sure they do not prevent your child from entering the car via the left side doors. Please also avoid having to access the boot. If everyone adheres to this request we should be able to keep everybody safe."

Dance @ LLV Update

2021 is going to be an exciting year for Dance @ LLV! This year we are growing our dance program to ensure we cater for all students who love to dance. We are running two programs - The LLV Dance Enhance Program (K-11) and the LLV Competitive Jewel Show Troupes through the external provider REDed.

Thank you.

On behalf of LLV, K-2 Hub would like to thank all of our LLV family for an amazing 2020. Enjoy.

It's a Wrap! One student's take on 2020.

Thanks so much to Lucinda in Stage 3 for her epic summary of 2020.

A wonderful community project.

We are so excited to be delivering the blankets that were made by so many members of our community as a way of reaching out to the vulnerable and lonely in our wider networks. We will be taking these beautiful blankets to the Scalabrini Nursing Home this weekend. Thank you Amanda for putting all the pieces together. Thanks from all of us for contributing.

Stage 4 Collaboration
Literacy
Featherdale Wildlife Park

The Culmination of our Stage 4 pop-up project.

Yesterday, the buzz in The Bitter Pea was palpable as our Stage 4 students shared their published pop-up books with their Stage 1 audience. It was an absolute delight to listen into the stories being read in multiple languages to our very receptive younger students. We are extremely proud of every one of our Stage 4 students. Their work was exemplary. Below you can find links to a sample which have been digitized. More will follow. Thank you to the amazing team of educators that has mentored these students through this fabulous project. Thanks to Natasha, Belinda, Sophia, Teresa, Jo and Jacki. Enjoy!

In Term 2, LLV students across Stage 2, 3 and 4 opted-in to participate in creating two-minute films for a NSW-wide Language Festival called ‘Linguafest’ run by MLTA (Modern Languages Teacher’s Association). In this project, language enthusiasts teamed together with film enthusiasts in a collaborative process to compose their films at school. We are so proud of the talent at LLV. A total of 14 films were completed by our students in the languages Chinese, Italian, Spanish, French, Konkani and Hindi!

There were strict guidelines for the competition, and out of the five submitted to the competition, TWO of LLV’s films have been crowned NSW winners in different categories!

Linguafest - Stage 4

Congratulations to the Stage 4 team behind the German film 'Lunchbox Notes' who have won MLTA's award for Stage 4 Finalist! Well done Rosemary C, Maya , Siena S, and Nina G!

Linguafest - Stage 2

A very big bravo to the Stage 2 team behind the French film 'The Yoga Class,' who have been crowned 'Best Comedy.' Fantastic job Aarna M, Florence H-R and Imogen S.

Linguafest - Stage 4

A shoutout to the fun animation film completed in Mandarin Chinese by Stage 4 students Janet C and Elizabeth G-H.

Linguafest - Stage 4

We would also like to recognise the very flash film editing skills behind the Stage 4 team, 'Vyom Gets Bullied.' Although unable to be submitted to 'Linguafest,' thank you Noah S, Jack G, Kai H, James G and Vyom A.

Linguafest - Stage 3

Finally, a great big shoutout to the efforts by Stage 3 students for 'The Cricket Game,' where all speakers spoke in Konkani (an Indian dialect). Fantastic efforts Aarav M, Rian Y and Lucca V.

Caesar The Day - The Museum

For the first half of this term, some of our Stage 2 and 3 students spent time delving into all things ‘Ancient Rome’. Throughout this time, they have built a replica of Rome, created mosaics, built a working aqueduct, a chariot and put together museum exhibits.

What's new in 2021!

2021 will be 'The Year of the Storyteller" at Lindfield Learning. We are already excited about developing our collective capacity as writers and storytellers. First Day for Stdents (download the below document for all the information)
